Day 3

http://www.hwbf.org/hwb/conf/kull6/kull6.htm/conf/kull6/kull6.htm

Whilst working in the fracture clinic with Mr R and Mr D and I discussed the relevence of bone quality views with respect to bone lenghening. These views are to display the new bone growth between the fracture, (as below).

If the request came though for images of the Tibial Bone quality view, there is no need to irradiate the whole limb. Some protocols suggest there is a need for three views of the fracture site, but at my Hospital (unless requested), would only do an AP and a LAT. The image is required over the fracture site between the central support rings, but superimposition of the nearest ring to the fracture is required, as not to cover any of the fracture.

The images above do show superimpostition of the proximal and distal rings nearest to the fracture, but the whole limb is imaged, this is not nessasary for bone quality views only for positional views which would be the initial imaging post surgery.

I have completed many images for bone quality, but i did start to wonder if I had correctly achieved the requirement for the orthopods. I always knew if I centered to the fracture site and reduced the MAS, the image would be very light, but new bone growth is cleary visible.
